New online EMu community
With the help and generosity of Museum Victoria (Melbourne, Australia), and in particular Forbes Hawkins, a new online community has been created for EMu users. EMuUsers.org, which is fully endorsed by KE Software, is hosted and managed by Museum Victoria and will soon replace the EMu Users list server.
It is anticipated that the EMuUsers.org website will be the central point for users worldwide to share ideas and offer each other advice, and we encourage you to visit, make use of and contribute to the site.
KE Software always welcomes your feedback and suggestions and we invite you to use the EMuUsers.org website for this purpose. We will be participating in the online community and will respond to any queries and feedback.
Please note that you will need to register with EMuUsers.org even if you were previously registered with the old EMu Users list server.
EMu 3.1 Help
KE EMu version 3.1 will include improved Help and a simplified means for users to design and customise their own Help.
Download a sample Help file and take a look at what features will be available with the new release (please note that these Help files are works in progress). Download the US version (20MB). Download the Australian and UK version (20MB).

EMu 3.1
EMu 3.1 is due for release later in 2005 and will include bug fixes as well as new features that we hope you will find useful and helpful. A major change will be the introduction of Record Level Security.
Upgrades
Many clients enquire about how and when to arrange an upgrade. In the case of a major upgrade (e.g. 3.0 / 3.1 releases), we contact you to arrange a time to perform the work.
A minor upgrade is often driven by the needs of individual clients. For example, if a client requests a modification to EMu, the modification is installed along with the latest version of the software (complete with all fixes and enhancements available at that time). However, if a particular problem is reported that has or requires a fix, we will need to schedule a minor release upgrade (e.g. 3-0-06).
An upgrade can take as little as an hour or as long as a day depending on the size of the databases, the speed of the server and the number of modules that need to be rebuilt.
Details of fixes and version enhancements can be found on the emudev website.

Did You Know...

- KE Software has a KE EMu web interface that allows searching and presentation of your collection online. Speak to a KE consultant to find out more.
- If you digitise your collection and need a way to import your images into the Multimedia module, KE Software can help you. We can develop tools that handle mass importing of images and load them automatically into the Multimedia module, linking to catalogue records.
- It’s possible to check who is currently logged into KE EMu:
- From the Command Centre, select
. This displays the Admin Tasks window.
- Select Admin > View Server Connection Status > OK. This will display your licence information and a list of users currently logged into the system.
This is a good way of monitoring system usage and determining how your licences are being used. It’s also a good way of determining if users are not logging out when they should be!

When a query is performed in KE EMu, the results are displayed in a list with one or more columns; it is possible to create your own list view and include columns that meet your needs. To do so, after you've performed a query:
- From the Menu Bar select View>Columns>Select View.
- Select the New button. This displays the Column Properties window.
- Enter a descriptive name for your new list view in the text box beside the New List View icon
.
- In the Fields List, first select a field to display and then select the Add button. Continue to select and add all the fields you wish to include in the display.
Note: The default height for a row in List View is 17 pixels. If one of the fields you select is for multimedia (an image for example), increase the row height (to a maximum of 99 pixels) by overwriting the number in the Height field.
- To change the order of columns in the List Display, first select an entry in the Columns Up or Down list and then select either the arrow to the right of the list.
- Select OK when your new List View is complete.
To use a List View, after you've performed a query:
- From the Menu Bar select View>Columns>Select View.
- Select a List View from the list, and select OK.
