EMu 3.0 Install/Upgrade Notes

Introduction
The EMu client runs on Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000 or XP. The EMu licensing model permits the EMu client to be installed on an unlimited number of PCs. If an older EMu client is currently installed on the PC it is recommended that you first remove the old EMu client before you install the new EMu client.
Requirements
Installation Notes (EMu Client)
- For Windows 95/98/Me installations it does not matter who you login as.
For Windows NT/2000/XP installations you must login as a user with Administrator privileges.
- Start your web browser and right click on the KE EMu hyperlink above.
- Browse the EMu Release Site.
Right click on the hyperlink for the release you require (select the Client column).
- Select Save Target As... (Internet Explorer) or Save Link As... (Netscape Navigator). Browse to a temporary area (eg. C:\TEMP or C:\WINDOWS\TEMP) and save the file.
- Select Run... from on the Start menu. The Run dialog box will appear.
- Click Browse... and the Browse dialog box will appear. Navigate to where you stored the KE EMu Client setup file (for example C:\TEMP\emu-client-3-0-001.exe). Select the file and click Open.
- Click OK. The KE EMu client installation program will commence.
DCOM (if required)
If the installation program detects that you do not have DCOM installed, or an old version is present, you will be prompted to install the new version. PCs running Windows 95/98/Me/NT are the most likely to have an old version of DCOM installed.
- If your system has an out of date version of DCOM a dialog will appear requesting that a newer version be installed.
Click OK to continue.
- After installation of DCOM you will be prompted to "re-boot in order to finish the installation".
Click OK to reboot your system.
- After reboot you MUST immediately login again to allow the DCOM installation to complete.
For Windows 95/98/Me installations it does not matter who you login as. For Windows NT/2000/XP installations you must login as a user with Administrator privileges.
- The KE EMu setup will then continue.
MDAC (if required)
MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) provides ODBC access to EMu. If the installation program detects that you do not have MDAC installed, or an old version is present, you will be prompted to install the new version.
- If your system has an out of date version of MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) then the System Component Check dialog will appear. This dialog will state Setup detects that MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) must be installed (or re-installed) on your system.
Click OK to continue.
- The Microsoft Data Access panel will appear briefly.
- The Wise Installation System Dialog will appear. It will state "MDAC has been installed. The system must re-boot in order to finish the installation".
Click OK to reboot your system.
- After reboot you MUST immediately login again to allow the MDAC installation to complete.
For Windows 95/98/Me installations it does not matter who you login as. For Windows NT/2000/XP installations you must login as a user with Administrator privileges.
- The KE EMu setup will then continue.
Installation Notes (EMu Client) cont.
- The Welcome dialog will appear. Click Next >.
- The Licence Agreement dialog will appear. Read the licence and if you accept the terms and conditions click Yes >.
- The Get Registration Information dialog will appear. Enter Name and Company as appropriate and click Next >.
- The Choose Destination Location dialog will appear.
If you are intend to perform a Network Server installation (see below) then Browse to the appropriate network drive and folder. For Network Client and Standalone installations (see below) the default location is recommended. Choose the destination location and click Next >.
- The Select Components dialog will appear.
A Network Server/Network Client installation will allow sharing of most EMu client files. The Network Server must first be installed on a network drive. Each PC should then have the Network Client installed and when asked reference the previously installed Network Server. Subsequent installations of KE EMu need only update the Network Server component. This is the recommended style of setup. If your PC does not have access to a suitable network file server then you should perform a Standalone installation. For this style of installation a subsequent EMu client upgrade will require the client to be re-installed on the PC. Select the required option and click Next >.
- Network Client only
The Select KE EMu Network Server Folder dialog will appear. Click Browse The Select Network Folder dialog will appear. Browse to the network drive and folder and then click OK. Click Next >.
- The Start Installation dialog will appear. Click Next > to install the EMu Client.
- The Installing dialog will appear indicating how far the installation has proceeded.
- After the installation has finished the Installation Complete dialog will appear. Click Finish >.
Removing old EMu Client
- For Windows 95/98/Me installations it does not matter who you login as.
For Windows NT/2000/XP installations you must login as a user with Administrator privileges.
- From on the Start menu select Settings>Control Panel to display the Control Panel window.
- Select Add/Remove Programs and from the pull down menus choose File>Open.
- The Add/Remove Program Properties dialog will appear.
- On the Install/Uninstall tab select KE EMu and then click Add/Remove.
- The uninstall program will commence.
Follow the prompts to remove KE EMu. You may be prompted to confirm the removal of various system files (typically files ending in .dll). If are unsure whether it is safe to remove a system file click No. It is safe to confirm the removal of any file under the EMu installation directory (typically C:\Program Files\KESoftware\EMu).
- Upon return to the Add/Remove Program Properties dialog click OK to close this dialog.
- Select File>Close to close the Control Panel window.
